Peja: The 33rd edition of the Traditional Games “RUGOVA 2024” was held
Organized by the Municipality of Peja, the 33rd edition of the traditional games "Rugova 2024" was held in Boge. This time, two disciplines of traditional games were held in this event: Wrestling and Hand-to-Hand Wrestling, as well as a rich artistic program.
The manifestation Traditional games are an ancient cultural heritage of the Rugova region, among the oldest in the country, so the interest and support of institutions is never lacking. This time this manifestation was held with a rich cultural and sports program. In addition to the program in sports disciplines, this year there was also a more intense artistic program from the regions of the Albanian ethnicity.
The event was welcomed by Mayor Gazmend Muhaxherii on behalf of the Municipality of Peja.
"The 33rd edition of the competitions and I wish that this tradition continues without interruption and I congratulate the organizers," declared the chairman Gazmend Muhaxheri.
Compared to previous years where there were seven disciplines on the program, this time there were only hand-holding and popular wrestling, which was given more space.
"But the hand-wringing is an attraction and wrestling in particular, which was in first place and aroused great interest. This year there is an extraordinary preparation in these disciplines and almost the best wrestlers we have in these lands participated," said Vesel Nikçi from the Organizing Council.
Chairman of the local community of Rugova and professor at the Peja high school, Flamur Rexhbogaj, emphasized that it is essential to remember the importance of these games that have shaped our identity and kept our spirit alive.
"Traditional games are more than entertainment. They are a way to convey important values and lessons to younger generations. Through them, we learn about the importance of cooperation, respect for each other, and a sense of belonging in the community," said Professor Flamur Rexhbogaj.
In this cultural and sports event, attended by people from all over Kosovo, the Albanian diaspora, and other Albanian regions, a rich program of Albanian song and dance stars was also presented. The organizer awarded cups, medals, and certificates to the best competitors in each discipline of traditional games, while the national television station KlanMacedonia was also honored with recognition.
